The whole journey, at a glance

US résumé vs United Kingdom CV — the differences and the three-step conversion.

The honest part

We reformat what you wrote. We never invent what you didn't.

Where a British CV needs something only you can supply, we flag it for you to add rather than making it up — we never fabricate a profile, an employer, a qualification, a photo, or a date of birth. The facts stay yours; only the format changes.

Questions

Is a CV the same as a résumé in the UK?+

Not quite. UK employers ask for a 'CV', which follows different conventions from a US résumé — it opens with a short personal profile, can run to two pages, uses British spelling, and is structured Employment History then Education. This tool reformats a US résumé into that UK CV format.

Should I put a photo or my date of birth on a UK CV?+

No. Unlike some European countries, the UK norm — rooted in equality law — is to leave off your photo, date of birth, and marital status. The converter keeps them off, exactly as a UK recruiter expects.

How long should a UK CV be?+

Up to two pages is standard and expected in the UK, versus the one-page US résumé. The conversion re-lays your existing content into that longer format — it does not pad it with anything you didn't write.

Does it change my spelling to British English?+

Yes — organize becomes organised, center becomes centre, program becomes programme, and so on. It's one of the quiet giveaways that a résumé wasn't written for the UK market.
